Just when you start to think the Republican party cannot sink any lower, they always find a way to surprise you.

A Republican Senate candidate in Ohio is doubling down on a controversial campaign ad, insisting voters need to be aware of an important fact: that the frontrunner in the primary is Jewish.”

  • Front Runner: Josh Mandel
  • Anti-Semitic: Mark Pukita
  • Place: Ohio Senate Primary

When asked to respond to claims that he is antisemitic, Mark Pukita rolled out his canned response. He said, “In terms of antisemitism, all I did in an ad was pointed out that Josh is going around saying he’s got the Bible in one hand and the constitution in the other. But he’s Jewish,” Pukita said. “Everybody should know that though, right?”

Ahhh. How Cute!

The socio-racial-religious fault lines the GOP exploited to take on democratic candidates have now spilled over to GOP’s intra-party challenges. First, party candidates must clear the Trump smell test, and then they will have to pass the evangelical purity test.
