China’s COVID-U Turn Will Hurt Everyone
What happens in China, never stays in China
China’s “Zero-COVID” policy was a message for people inside and outside the country.
The message was that the XI Jinping-led communist government can face any calamity and it can come out on top. It was a message to the world that autocracies can act swiftly and decisively. The implication was autocratic governments can deliver, while argumentative democracies dither and wither.
Had the communist regime in China dropped their stupidity and kept their negative tendencies at bay, history may have concluded that the Chinese government was right. America would have been called out for mismanaging COVID, while China would have been hailed for shutting down the virus.
It could have happened.
But it did not.
Being a benevolent king, when you have unlimited power is simply impossible. When egomaniacal billionaires act like petulant children, it is impossible for dictators to listen. It will always be my way or the highway. A lot of time the highway is a lot better than travelling with the dictator.
Xi Jinping’s “Zero-COVID” will be etched in history as the worst failure mankind ever delivered.
