While delivering her acceptance speech to replace Liz Cheney as the GOP Conference Chair, Elise Stefanik derided the April Jobs report as “the worst jobs report in 20 years”.

But there is not even a modicum of truth in the newly elected chair’s statement. The disgrace of presiding over the worst jobs report in modern history belongs to Donald Trump.

In April 2020, the US economy lost 20.5 million jobs, following a loss of 870,000 jobs in March of that year. This was far and away from the most significant decrease since the US began tracking the number in 1939”.

We see the worst jobs report in over 20 years. Unemployment is up, small businesses are struggling to hire workers — Elise Stefanik, May 14, 2020

A similar statement from anyone in the leadership position would have cost them their political career a few decades ago, but not anymore. The value of a 21st-century political leader is derived from the shock value he or she can create, not by the courage they display in standing up.
