He is just throwing more bodies and hoping for a win. He should have closed the eastern positions by now, but the fact that he couldn't is means he cannot sustain it as long as he wants to sustain it. I think he will soon reach out for the negotiating table as soon as he fills the occupied area with more Russian conscripts. He might even flood the zone with more russians.

Also he will continue at least until till May 9th. Then he will ask for national mobilization by making the case that this war is not about Ukraine but more about America and EU. Then one last try before he reaches for the table.

ukraine has to crush as much as they can before May 9th. If Ukraine can hold the current positions or advance a little bit before 9th, then the end game in eastern Ukraine will be closer than it will appear.
