Democracy Without Weapons is ‘Blah, Blah , Blah’
U.S. General Mark Milley’s statement that Ukraine may not win its war militarily, and that winter may offer an opportunity to begin negotiations with Russia, sparked a flurry of reaction inside and outside the U.S. government.
The entire world never gave Ukraine a chance against the Russian army. Now, nearly nine months after the invasion, we are talking about negotiating with Russia.
We wouldn’t be in this situation today if Putin had been sufficiently punished for invading Crimea in 2014. But here we are, spending billions of dollars, watching hundreds of thousands men and women die in the battlefield, millions of families uprooted from their homes, children deported into Russia, all because one man thinks he can get away with it.
There is a cost for ignoring justice
The world paid a huge price for gifting Sudetenland to Hitler in 1938. Britain, France and Italy did not want a war. So they sued for peace. They didn’t even bother to ask the owner of the land, Czechoslvakia, before offering their real estate to Hitler.
One year later, Hitler marched into Poland.
