It sounds a tad bit unfair to blame Russian bad luck for Ukraine’s decisive win. But the Russians did help themselves to losing in northern Ukraine.
In seven weeks, Russia couldn’t win a single population center in Ukraine. Russia was supposed to win Mariupol several weeks ago. But according to the latest information, the fight for the city center is still on.
When the plan to knock off Ukraine in less than 100 hours failed miserably against Ukrainian resistance, the overstretched Russian army couldn’t sustain positions across the vast terrain. They tried literally everything possible for several weeks
- First, the offensive movement got stalled.
- Then the Russian army turned to digging around Kyiv hoping to defend the occupied territory. But the plan to squat for thousands of miles did not work against an enemy who just refused to die.
- Now the Russians have completely given up their plan to win the north.
- The new plan is to win eastern Ukraine and a small portion in the south.
