When Kevin McCarthy appeared on Sean Hannity's show in 2015, he publicly boasted the damage Benghazi hearings delivered to Hillary Clinton. The hearings that swallowed two and half years and closer to eight million dollars of taxpayer money was a hit job designed to hurt a potential democratic nominee for President.
“According to Media Matters for America, Fox News ran 1,098 “evening” segments on Benghazi in the 20 months after the tragedy”.
Media Matters for America termed Fox Coverage an obsession, but it is a well-calibrated pre-emptive strike on Hillary Clinton. And it worked. Hillary Clinton had the worst favorability rating for a Democratic presidential candidate in recent memory.
The increasing ferocity of the GOP-Fox attacks on Kamala Harris is a subtle acceptance that they consider Kamala Harris as the candidate to beat in 2024. There is a decent amount of chance that Biden may seek the second term, but it's still worth hurting the rise of another Black American to the White House.
