Liz Cheney Fights a Losing Battle

But refuses to stop

Donald Trump was at his best in the 2015 Republican Primary. Witty one-liners, catchphrases, Zingers, and a bag full of made-for-TV tricks that allowed him to bounce back after every scandal stronger than before. He was at his devastating best when he branded his opponents as Little Marco, Crooked Hillary, and Lyin Ted. A definition none of his opponents managed to get out of.

But politics is a brutal space. Your actions are always analyzed, and countermeasures are always fine-tuned. There are two ways to hurt Trump's political messaging. You can either choose the Biden way, act as if you are the only person in the race, and completely ignore his existence or you can deploy the Liz Cheney way to turn Trump’s message against him.

“The 2020 presidential election was not stolen,” Liz Cheney tweeted. “Anyone who claims it was is spreading THE BIG LIE, turning their back on the rule of law, and poisoning our democratic system.”

It was a clever response to Donald Trump, who earlier in the day, sent out a message through his Super Pac, “The Fraudulent Presidential Election of 2020 will be, from this day forth, known as THE BIG LIE!”

Liz Cheney busted Trump’s President in Mar-a-logo exile messaging wide open. Anyone who tries to carry a banner with The BIG LIE typed on it will be brutally slammed with Liz Cheney’s words.

Thanks to Liz Cheney, Trump and the supporters of his election fraud theory will hence force be tagged with Trump’s very own words.

Liz Cheney has extraordinarily little support from the GOP which continues to be gripped by the fear of Trump. Her position as the №3 House Republican is increasingly untenable, as getting rid of her will soon become a loyalty test for Republicans who seek Trump’s endorsement.

Not that Liz Cheney is unaware of this dynamic. Removing her from the leadership position is imperative for die-hard Trump supporters in the House of Representatives as she keeps busting the Trump Election Fraud balloon every time he tries to fly it.

According to reports, during an off the record interview with former House Speaker Paul Ryan and in front of several donors Liz Cheney said,

“We can’t embrace the notion the election is stolen. It’s a poison in the bloodstream of our democracy. We can’t whitewash what happened on January 6 or perpetuate Trump’s big lie. It is a threat to democracy. What he did on January 6 is a line that cannot be crossed.”

What Liz Cheney told us in public is exactly what she has been saying in private, behind closed doors, and in front of GOP donors. If anything, Liz Cheney is more than aware that it will only be a matter of weeks if not months before she is removed from her leadership post.

But despite knowing the outcome and despite her awareness that Trump will do everything in his power to mobilize support to bring her down in Wyoming in 2022, Liz Cheney continues to forge ahead.

An admirable quality.

A quality that we all continue to fail in seeking from elected officials.

“Whatever our political disagreements, I really appreciate your willingness to stand up for the truth even when it puts your career at risk. We need more folks in office with that kind of guts”. — Jeff Sites on Liz Cheney

Trump cannot accept that he had lost the election and ask people to cut him a check to help him save the country. The power of his money machine is directly tied to his ability to foment the lie. But every loser from here on out will now have an option to say that he never lost the election, and it was stolen from him. An option many will gladly take, chipping away at the root of the democracy.

Democracy works on the implicit idea that the loser will concede. You change that equation; democracy will make way for something else. But the GOP continues to march in this direction because winning the re-election in 2022 is more important than saving the democracy.
