“Russia, this is, without question, our number one geopolitical foe,” Romney, who would be the Republican presidential nominee in the 2012 race against President Barack Obama, told Wolf Blitzer in March of that year. “They — they fight every cause for the world’s worst actors.”

“The 1980s are now calling to ask for their foreign policy back, because the Cold War’s been over for 20 years”, President Obama mocked the Republican Presidential nominee.

Recollecting the incident that happened in 2012, Chris Cillizza, CNN’s Editor-at-large wrote “Obama and his team pounced on the comment, insisting that it showed Romney was hopelessly out of touch when it came to the threats facing the US”.

Oh. Dear. Lord.

It was President Obama and his team that proved to be hopelessly out of touch about the threats faced by the United States. The little back and forth between President Obama’s team and then Presidential nominee Mitt Romney’s team may feel extremely distant in our memories.

It happened almost 11 years ago.

President Obama’s dismissive response to Mitt Romney’s prescient warnings about Russia set a dangerous precedent…
