One more day. One more radar. Ukraine delivers another multi-million dollar hit.
American HIMARS is the worst enemy Russian radars have ever met in their life.
I don’t know why I did that.
I spent a brief period contemplating how I would plan to protect multi-million-dollar Russian counter-battery radar systems from their worst enemy, the U.S. made High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS).
I can move the radar system out of range, but Ukraine’s ATACMS missiles can reach up to 300 kilometers.
The Yastreb-AV, Russia’s counter-battery radar system designed to detect and track incoming artillery fire, has a range of 40 kilometers. Therefore, I can’t move it too far from the frontline; it needs to remain relatively close.
I can keep relocating it around the frontline, but Ukraine has drones that can monitor areas up to 100 kilometers or possibly even further.
Fast relocation will not significantly improve its safety profile.
The only way to protect Russian weapons closer to the frontline is by neutralizing Ukraine’s high-precision artillery systems. Kill them before they can fire again. This is known as counter-battery fire.
