Russia overstates everything about its weapons, while the United States understates everything. We have been told over and over that Vladimir Putin’s new supersonic toy Kinzhal is so good that nothing else can compete with them. There has never been any mention by the United States that the the four decade old Patriot air-defense system is capable of destroying supersonic missiles

Ukraine received multiple Patriot air-defense systems in the third week of April. On May 4th, around 2.40 am, Patriots intercepted the Russia’s supersonic Kinzhal missile for the first time in history.

Because Putin had already prepared us to sit in awe of his missiles, few outside the Pentagon believed Patriot could destroy missiles traveling at ten times the speed of sound. The interception was a huge surprise and Ukraine’s defense minister Oleskii Reznikov wasted no time to rub it in on the…
