I hate the ‘I told you so’ articles. Every time I read them, I find myself talking to the author in my head to move past the past and focus on the present. But today, I must revisit something I mentioned before, not because of my November 26th thesis, but because the Biden administration, while recognizing the situation, hesitates to fully commit to defeating the Russian army.

My view on November 26th: “I think Russia views Avdiivka as a vital element in its strategic calculus, key to preventing Ukraine from receiving the sixty billion dollar aid package from the United States”.

ISW’s opinion on December 12th: “Russian forces may be conducting costly offensive operations at a time unfavorable for ground maneuver to time the potential shift in battlefield initiative with ongoing conversations in the West about continued support to Ukraine”.

December 12th assessment by US intelligence: “Russian offensive operations in eastern Ukraine in fall 2023 and through the upcoming winter aim to weaken Western support for Ukraine instead of achieving any immediate operational objectives.
