The pile of dismissal orders is slowly piling up. The number of high ranking military officers vanishing from public view is on the rise. A battalion has openly declared the order of defiance if their commander gets sacked. It is all happening in the Russian frontline.

Of the small group that got sacked in the last week, Colonel General Ivan Popov and Major General Vladimir Seliverstov are decorated officers. Popov was incharge of Russian defense in the extremely important Western Zaporizhia sector, while Seliverstov was in charge of stopping the Ukrainian army from advancing in the flanks of Bakhmut city.

These were the two sections Ukraine has had its eyes on since the start of the counter-offensive last month. I have written at least a few times that Russian defense was good.

Russia may have built miles of minefields and layer after layer of trenches. But physical barriers are useless unless they are effectively manned by troops. You need firepower to stop your adversary from clearing those defensive barriers and breaking into your line. At times you will have to absorb the attacks and at times you will have to leave the trenches and counter-attack.

It is a process that involves establishing logistical routes, maintaining stockpiles…
