Russia’s airstrikes are not a show of force
Desperation unfolds in it
During the second world war, the Nazis’ heavily relied on psychological warfare. As part of their terror campaign to defeat Britain, the Nazis used V1 cruise missiles and V2 ballistic missiles.
“A total of 9,251 V-1s were fired at targets in Britain, with the vast majority aimed at London; 2,515 reached the city, killing 6,184 civilians and injuring 17,981. The attacks from V-2s resulted in the deaths of an estimated 9,000 civilians and military personnel”.
At one point, the Nazis launched hundreds of these weapons into London every day. The Nazis promoted these weapons as ‘wonder weapons’ (Wunderwaffe) that could turn the tide of the war.
The Nazis used psyops to force the enemy on the back foot. The objective was to make their opponents feel like there is no hope of winning and it is better to give up than to fight. The British didn’t give up. Despite the hits, they kept going. They kept fighting.
The red army has been given far too much credit for stopping the Nazis. Partly true, but not entirely. The Nazi logistics machine suffered its first blow thanks to the stellar fight the Brits put up against them. The aura of Nazi invincibility evaporated in London.
