Texas is Blue?

Not there yet. But the drift is on

My eyes popped out a bit when Democrats suddenly took the lead against incumbent Senator Ted Cruz in Texas. The gap between Democrat Colin Allred and Cruz didn’t slowly narrow and flip — it was a sudden leap. Allred jumped from trailing by four to ten points to taking a one-point lead in the Morning Consult poll conducted after the presidential debate.

But it’s just one poll, and it could easily be an outlier. We need to wait for a trend to emerge before making any conclusions. The next two weeks of polling will give us a clearer picture. Let there be no doubt, Republican pollsters will try to skew the numbers — and let there be no doubt, I’ll be ready to shut them down.

Can Allred really do this?

Difficult. Very, very difficult. But not impossible.

Alabama is impossible. West Virginia is impossible. Texas is not impossible. Florida is not impossible. It takes a lot of heart, effort, and a seriously smart campaign to bring these states into the blue column.

Ted Cruz has been a shaky candidate for a long time.

He can’t even be compared to the other senator from Texas, John Cornyn. No one calls Cornyn “Cancun Cornyn” — that’s reserved for Cruz. I’ve never seen Cornyn express blind loyalty to Trump or kiss the…
