Facebook was supposed to be the last social media company. When the entire world is hooked up, and nearly everyone is connected, there won’t be space for another company to compete with Facebook. At least, that was the idea.
Due to the size and scale of its reach, it will be challenging to compete with Facebook by offering the same tools. Only a company that provides a different experience will be able to deliver a crushing blow to Facebook.
Facebook had always feared this outcome. The growth of TikTok and Facebook’s inability to dent YouTube’s popularity fanned Zuckerberg’s fears. Youtube is already as big as Facebook, and unlike Facebook, the video-centric platform is still growing at a fast clip.
The TikTok growth chart attached above tells a story of its own — it is growing faster than Facebook and Instagram.
