I may be mistaken as it has been some time since I watched the movie “Pearl Harbor,” but I recall a scene where the Japanese commander of the ship responsible for the surprise attack on the U.S. Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, expresses the sentiment that they might have awakened a sleeping giant.

The internet attributes the statement “I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve” to Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, the commander-in-chief of the Japanese Combined Fleet during World War II. While its authenticity is debated, the phrase aptly captures the current situation in Europe.

Putin has compelled Europe to set aside its differences and unite as a single entity. While there may be some lingering challenges, these hurdles are gradually diminishing in significance thanks to the resolute collective response from Europe to Putin’s invasion.

Europe is way ahead of the United States in delivering military, financial, and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.
