Once upon a time, there was a man named Elon Musk who was hailed as a savior who would save the world from its worst impulses. But the world may already be at a point where it is necessary to rescue Musk from his worst instincts and restore him to his former glory.
During the early days of the Russia-Ukraine war, Elon sent thousands of Starlink terminals to the Ukrainian army to help provide internet connectivity.
As he rejoiced in the good will that flew in his direction, the entire world remained blissfully unaware that most of the terminals shipped to Ukraine were billed by SpaceX and paid by the United States, Poland, and other European countries.
Early this week, Elon Musk requested Ukraine cover the monthly subscription costs for internet usage. That is certainly right up Elon Musk’s alley. Get credit where you can and send the bill as soon as possible.
In his quest for controversy driven fame, Musk achieved more than what he bargained for. He did not anticipate the intensity of the global backlash. Who in the right mind is going to sympathize with a mega-billionaire crying over millions?
Musk decided to backtrack rather than double down, as he often does.
