Primaries are intra-party contests designed to identify the best candidate who can win the election and take the party forward. Every election in the world is a ‘choose the best on offer’ test, except for the GOP Senate primary in Ohio.
It is an election to select the worst.
Backed by billionaires, former Ohio treasurer Josh Mandel and venture capitalist J. D. Vance are locked in a deathmatch to prove who grovels better.
Both candidates are not fighting over Republican ideologies or conservative principles. Instead, they are attacking each other over their loyalty to Trump and allegiance to Trumpism.
Two super PACs supporting Mandel have launched nearly $1 million in ads hammering Vance’s past criticism of Trump. These include Vance’s admission that he didn’t vote for Trump in 2016, and Vance’s descriptions of Trump as “noxious,” “reprehensible” and “an idiot.”
