Trumpism without Trump is a bigger threat than Trump in 2024

Lincoln Project co-founder Rick Wilson was lavishly attacked for his preference to greet Donald Trump as the Republican Presidential nominee in 2024.

“I think this is the mother of bad ideas,” said conservative commentator and Trump critic Charlie Sykes. “But also the father, brother, sister, and cousin of a truly bad idea. [It] ignores the fact that Trump could actually be elected again, and you would’ve thought we had all learned our lesson from playing games with that possibility the last time.”

I respectfully disagree with the assessment — we are better off without Trump in the picture in 2024. There is something called reality and then there is something called being naive. We can all keep talking about stopping Trump from winning the Republican nomination for president in 2024.

But the reality is: Trump will run in 2024 and he will win the nomination. The only factor that can stop him is his health. I don’t think Merrick Garland has the courage to take him down.

Trump needs money from his base. Unless he runs in 2024, the money flowing towards his Save America Super PAC will dry up.
