We have a new baseline.
After staying outside the polling margin of error for months with a solid lead over Biden in crucial swing states, Donald Trump’s advantage has all but evaporated when pitted against the much younger and more coherent Kamala Harris.
Nine percent of undecided voters is significant, but not an unexpected outcome at this stage of the race. With more than 100 days until Election Day, independents are not going to reveal their preferences this far out. They will wait until the final weeks, and they will not lean in either direction until early voting begins.
The good news for the Democrats is that their candidate is starting on par with Donald Trump and not behind. With nearly double-digit undecideds, they are more likely to lean towards the Democratic candidate than towards Trump.
