Ukraine: A Battle for the Bridges
There’s more to this than Kherson
In the modern era, war is not fought between opposing armies on an open field with all their might.
Multiple mini-battles occur at various locations at different times. It is a clash between weapons systems owned by both sides. A logistical challenge between two forces to supply their troops. An unending race to regenerate forces and rotate exhausted troops from the frontline.
One such mini-battle in the Ukrainian counter-offensive in Kherson Oblast illustrates the differences between the two sides.
The Ukrainian army has attempted to sabotage the logistics connection between Russian forces in Kherson Oblast and the rest of the Russian occupying forces in Ukraine by smashing all bridges across the Dnipro and Inhulets rivers.
Due to the absence of functioning bridges, Russian forces garrisoned on the other side of the two rivers must ferry their supplies, making life extremely difficult for any Russian unit attempting to stop the Ukrainian army’s advance into Kherson Oblast.
