Will he do it? Or won’t he?

Confusion gripped everyone, including those in the upper echelons of Ukrainian President Zelensky’s administration, weeks before Russia’s full-scale invasion. Only a handful of people in the world, such as Estonia’s Prime Minister Kaja Kallas and United Kingdom’s Secretary of State for Defence, Ben Wallace, were aware of Russia’s intent.

In December 2020, years before Russia invaded Ukraine, Ben Wallace, said “UK should be concerned about Russia using its military muscles and warned the UK must be aware of the threat posed”.

His statements before the war prove that Wallace has been concerned about Vladimir Putin’s threat for many years. His awareness helped the British administration deploy a consistent policy towards Russia. While prime ministers came and went through a revolving door over the last several years, Ben Wallace remained a constant through all the changes.
