The Kremlin didn’t just send Kirill Dmitriev — the CEO of Russia’s Direct Investment Fund and Putin’s favorite pitchman — to Washington for polite diplomacy. Officially, he came to meet U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump officials to discuss “collaborations” in the Arctic, rare earths, and LNG. But that was just the cover.

His real mission? Saturate American media with lies. And he did it with ease — slick, smiling, and lying through his teeth.

In interviews with Fox News and Newsmax, Dmitriev painted Russia as an economic success story thriving under sanctions and open for U.S. investment. He pitched Moscow as ready to collaborate, offering joint ventures and financial “opportunities.” It was a performance designed to distract from war, deflect from accountability, and rebrand Putin’s regime as business-friendly.

He claimed Russia might even offer Ukraine “some security guarantees” — a line completely out of sync with the Kremlin’s actual position. Putin has made clear he won’t accept any Western-backed security arrangement for Ukraine.

It was disinformation on tap. Lie after lie, wrapped in smooth soundbites, served straight to a Trump…
