Why my last hope to save the democracy is Beto O’ Rourke
Beto is in a unique position to change the trajectory of the country’s future. Is he the right man at the right time?
I have already convinced myself that the democrats will campaign for GOP candidates in 2022. And they will do it again in 2024. The democrats will leave no stone unturned to turn over control to the Republicans.
So, yes. I am done thinking about it.
Instead of watching the entire country and losing my fingernails over it, I have decided to watch a single race. My top-of-the-line priority for the 2020 midterms will be the race between Texas Governor Greg Abbott and his challenger Democrat Beto O’ Rourke.
Beto can win Texas and spring a surprise like Glenn Youngkin. And if he does, he will be a stumbling block in GOP’s plan to make the United States a minority-authoritarian state.
Before getting to the democracy angle, let us first look at the Democratic party’s chances in Texas.
Texas is not the same deep red state it once was. Texas slipped from the tenth safest state for a Republican presidential candidate in 2004 to the third least safe state in 2020.
- Bush won Texas in 2004 with a 22.87% margin.
- In 2020, Donald Trump scampered home with a margin of 5.58%.
