Why President Biden is Trying to Slow Down the Middle-East Conflict

Because He Understands What Needs to Be Done

On October 21st, leaders and foreign ministers from Arab, European, African, and other countries gathered in Cairo for a “peace summit” to resolve the brewing conflict in Gaza. Unfortunately, the world entered the summit divided and left it the same way.

However, a few remarks made during the summit revealed certain problems.

“The message the Arab world is hearing is loud and clear,” said King Abdullah II of Jordan in his remarks. “Palestinian lives matter less than Israeli ones. Our lives matter less than other lives. The application of international law is optional, and human rights have boundaries — they stop at borders, they stop at races, and they stop at religions.”

King Abdullah carefully sidestepped talking about Hamas or the hostages or the fact that it was Hamas who triggered the beginning of the entire fiasco, and kept his words focused on Israel’s actions. He obliquely pinned the blame on Israel’s past for the current situation.

He said, “Because when the bombs stop falling, Israel is never held accountable, the injustices of occupation continue, and the world walks away, until the next round of violence. The bloodshed we are witnessing today…
