Yesterday, both the Russian and Ukrainian armies came alive after months of relative quiet across the 600+ mile frontline.

Fighting erupted at nearly 30 locations. By the time you are reading this, it could have easily spread to other areas. Probably for the first time, the western media joined hands with their Russian counterparts to declare the beginning of Ukrainian counter-offensive.

Well…

If you want to call any territorial gain resulting from a battle as counter-offensive, then this is a counter-offensive. But I have a slightly different view. For weeks I have been saying that Ukrainian counter-offensive will not be a singular order asking all Ukrainian troops to push forward on a particular date.

This is not a boxing match that starts at the buzzer. It will take time to develop and we will know for sure only in hindsight.

Before we get into analyzing Ukraine’s actions over the last 24 hours, we need to first take a look at something the Russians did.
